Sri Puttru Maharishi Social Medical Service Center has joined with this Field Publicity Office in the year 2002 and for the last 10 years hundreds of awareness programmes on Medicinal Plants and Siddha Medicine system were conducted. Dr.A.C.Mohandoss, the then Collector was instrumental in the initial period of coordination with these two organization and he has participated in several programmes. Mr.Dharmendra Pratap Yadhav, Mr.S.Gopalakrishnan and Mr.C.Rajendiran, the then Collectors of Vellore District have participated in several programmes jointly organized by Field Publicity Office and Sri Puttru Maharishi Social Medical Service Center. One Day and Five Day workshops for College Students and Women SHG members were also conducted. As a novel effort, District level drawing competitions, Identification of Medicinal Plants and usual elocution competitions were conducted in a full day and the winners were awarded with prizes. Moreover students were taken to the medicinal plants farms as an educational excursion. A booklet and video CD were also published in coordination with Field Publicity Office. At Pondicherry, a visit to Regional Siddha Research Center was organized with the coordination of Field Publicity Office.

In association with Forest Department, hundreds of Free Siddha Medical Camps were conducted in TAP villages. We have reached remote hill and forest areas where the emergency medical facilities were not available and stayed there for one night and examined all the residents. Also we have trained them to use the available medicinal plants for simple ailments. Also we distributed free seeds to them. We are also participating regularly in the World Forestry Day, Elagiri Summer Festival, and Annual Exhibition at Fort and put up Medicinal Plants Exhibition on behalf of Forest Department.
National Social Service Scheme of School Education conducts annual and special camps frequently and we have been invited by individual schools to put up Medicinal Plants Exhibition and for talk. Like that, Arjunan has participated hundreds of such NSS camps in Vellore District and delivered a special talk on Food as Medicine and Medicine as Food.

In coordination with Govt. Museum, several programmes were conducted for the cultural enrichment of school students. Drawing Classes, Inscriptions reading and copy making Training, Exhibition of Medicinal Plants/ Ingredients for Medicines/Instruments, Exhibition of Stamps/Coins and other various activities were made for the last 20 years and the coordination still continues. Herbals and raw drugs exhibition at Pachayappa’s College, Chennai.
This programme was started in 1980 and medicinal plants exhibitions were put up in Temple Festivals, Government Functions, Schools, Colleges, Conferences of Siddha Medicine, Training Programmes and villages. Aong with the exhibition, Arjunan and his team explain the medicinal qualities of individual plants to the audience and interactive programme will follows with the audience. The team also gives counseling and guidance to the individuals about their personal ailments.
To popularize the Philosophy of Siddha Medicine System and to teach at least 40-50 medicinal plants, one day workshops were organized for school /college students and Women SHG members. The District Level Health Officials were invited as Guests and they inaugurated the workshops. In this one day workshop, four or five sessions of classes will be conducted. 1. Basics of Siddha System of Medicine 2. 40 to 50 Medicinal Plants 3. Food as Medicine 4. Simple tips to face day to day ailments 5. Emergency Medicines.
The students participated in the one day workshops expressed their dissatisfaction of covering the subject matter and wanted for more days of classes. So it was decided to conduct 5 days workshop enough to teach the subject matters to some extent. The field Publicity Officer at Vellore has designed this 5 days workshop course and conducted two such workshops at Vellore and one at Puducherry successfully. The syllabus include Indian system of Medicine, Philosophy of Siddha Medicine, 18 siddhars, Medicine Making, 50 Medicinal Plants ( 10 plants each day and thus 50 plants in 5 days), Emergency Medicine, Anjaraippetti Maruthuvam, Food as Medicine and Medicine as Food. Besides this, daily an eminent person in the field of Culture and Health will deliver special lectures.
In coordination with Health Department, Forest Department, Field Publicity Office, District TB Center and Agriculture Department, we have participated and conducted several programmes on various themes such as Suicide prevention, TB Control Filariasis Control, AH1N1 Control, HIV/AIDS Control and anemic control.
